ECU School of Theatre and Dance

East Carolina University is the place to be in Eastern North Carolina to enjoy top-of-the-line arts and entertainment. Home to the ECU/Loessin Playhouse, the S. Rudolph Alexander Performing Arts Series, the Wellington B. Gray Gallery, and the School of Music Performances at A.J. Fletcher Recital Hall, there is always something to see and hear.

Theatre and Dance Performances

At the ECU/Loessin Playhouse, students of the School of Theatre and Dance perform in remarkable plays and performances such as Hello, Dolly! and the annual Dance productions. Performances are held in ECU's McGinnis Theatre at the Messick Theatre Arts Center, where the School of Theatre and Dance is housed.

The S. Ruldoph Alexander Performing Arts Series invites professional artists to perform in the historic Wright Auditorium, located in the heart of campus. There is something for everyone, from a stage adaptation of the popular children's novel The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe to the Monterey Jazz Festival's 50th Anniversary Tour. Lovers of Shakespeare will want to watch out for the Aquila Theater Company's productions of Julius Caeser and Twelfth Night, while fans of dance should make sure to catch the St. Petersburg Ballet Company's Romeo & Juliet. You don't have to go all the way to New York City to enjoy the tunes of Broadway, as the S. Rudolph Alexander Performing Arts Series will also present Eastern North Carolina's first ever Broadway touring show during the 2007-2008 season.

Art in the Grey Gallery

The Grey Gallery, located in the Leo Jenkins Fine Arts Center, features exhibitions from students and professional artists alike. In the 2007-2008 school year, the gallery featured the Tri-State Sculpture Exhibition and Conference, paintings by Neill Slaughter, and exhibitions by the School of Art and Design faculty and students. Admission is free, but the quality of the work well exceeds the ticket price.

School of Music Performances

If music is more your thing, the School of Music Performances at A.J. Fletcher Recital Hall will literally be music to your ears. These performances feature some of the best student musicians at East Carolina and whether you choose a senior clarinet recital or a performance of one of the jazz ensembles, you will be in for a musical treat. Admission to the School of Music Performances is also free, and a new concert can be enjoyed nearly every night of the week.
