Kinston Indians

You’ll be cheering for the home team when you go to a Kinston Indians game at historic Grainger Stadium in Kinston, NC. A class-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, the Kinston Indians have produced some of major league baseball's biggest stars, such as C.C. Sabathia, pitcher for the Cleveland Indians, Grady Sizemore, center fielder for the Cleveland Indians, and Manny Ramirez, left fielder for the world champion Boston Red Sox.

The team, with a roster of 25 players, brings big-city talent to a small town. The Kinston Indians still have "team mamas," generous ladies who invite several players to stay in their homes. Although every player on the team doesn't have a "mama," those houses are popular places for the team to gather when they're not on the field.

The announcers also provide a special treat at Kinston Indians games. Go just once and you'll fall in love with Delmont Miller, the scorekeeper for the Indians for over 20 years. His first inning chatter is a favorite with fans and players alike, and he is known for giving "shout outs" to regular fans of the Indians or special groups. Take your little one for a birthday celebration, and Delmont might make their night over the public address system.

The games are a lot of fun, and you'll be watching some of the Carolina League's finest talent. In 2006, the Kinston Indians won the league pennant for the second time in three years and boasted the most talented and award winning team in franchise history. Several players were named to the minor league all-star roster, and the team won Team of the Year for their class.

Head to the concession stand and pick up a few treats for the family to share. Then make sure to stop by the pro shop, where you can buy an Indians hat or t-shirt to show your support for your favorite minor league team.

General admission tickets are affordable enough to take the whole family for a night of fun, or eavesdrop on the players in the dugout when you upgrade to box seats. Special events are often scheduled, such at t-shirt and hat giveaways or fireworks at the end of the game.
