For the film lover, Screen Gems studios is the place to be in Wilmington. One of the largest television and motion picture studios outside of Hollywood, Screen Gems produces popular television shows such as Dawson's Creek and One Tree Hill. Sharpen your acting skills as an extra and you may see yourself on the big screen one day.
Each year during the month of April, the North Carolina Azalea festival is held in Wilmington. Take the whole family to meet the Azalea Queen and see the weekend parade, or let the kids pick out something special at the street fair before seeing the Cole Bros. circus. For the adults, there are concerts by such famous artists as Natalie Cole and Alabama, as well as tours of the city.
If you go to Wilmington, be sure to visit the Cape Fear River and Wilmington's downtown area. Take a romantic walk on the waterfront and watch the boats, or take a ride on the water for yourself. Afterwards you can peruse the many quaint art galleries and shops that line the streets downtown and have dinner at one of the area's unique restaurants.
When the family comes to visit, make sure to take them down to Wrightsville Beach, a five-minute drive from Wilmington. Have a family picnic on the shore or watch the kids splash in the ocean. When the hot midday sun gets to be too much, walk up the street for ice cream at one of the beach's numerous surf shops. A family trip to Wrightsville Beach is one you will never forget.
